Strong Women, Strong Girls is a collaborative program that believes in strong community partnerships. In the 2010-2011 program year, SWSG partnered with numerous organizations in order to expand its impact. Recent partners include the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, Pittsburgh’s Best of the Batch Foundation, Boston’s Circle of Promise, and South Florida’s Honey Shine mentoring program.  Partnerships such as those with Girl Scouts, Big Sisters, and Honey Shine help provide participating girls with resources for continuous mentoring and support, as SWSG girls have the opportunity to participate in mentoring programs like Girl Scouts during the summer, and the Big Sisters Association and Honey Shine after they graduate the SWSG program and move onto middle school. Through these partnerships, SWSG helps ease significant transitions for girls and builds organizational capacity.

Additionally, SWSG is currently partnered with 90 elementary schools and community centers nation-wide to provide its free curriculum to at-risk girls. Lastly, SWSG partnered with 14 colleges and universities to engage college women as mentors.

SWSG fosters many different kinds of strong relationships. Beyond those with schools, universities, and peer organizations, SWSG supports strong relationships among girls and mentors and among girls as peers. This year, Strong Women, Strong Girls is partnered with 78 elementary school and community center sites to provide programming to over 1,100 girls in Boston, Pittsburgh and Miami.  To empower these girls, Strong Women, Strong Girls is partnered with 13 colleges and universities engaging over 290 college women as mentors.

In Boston,  partnerships enables Strong Women, Strong Girls to serve over fifty girls from five Circle of Promise Schools.  The Circle of Promise is an initiative led by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and School Superintendent Carol R. Johnson  that aims to encircle some of the city’s most under-preforming schools located in a five square mile area with comprehensive and seamless services to create a place where youth can thrive.

In Pittsburgh, Strong Women, Strong Girls has expanded to serve over 50 girls at three sites in the Hill District, where the median income is less than $10,000.

In addition to these partnerships, Strong Women, Strong Girls collaborates with other organizations working to make a positive difference in the community.  In South Florida, Strong Women, Strong Girls is proud partner of AmeriCorps and Volunteer Florida.  This partnership has increased Strong Women, Strong Girls’ capacity to engage diverse college women as mentors to more girls.
