As March comes to an end, so does the celebration of Women’s History Month, and we here at Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) are proud to see how dedicated our college chapters (Northeastern University and University of Massachusetts- Boston) were in making their celebrations a huge success. Women’s History Month is about honoring the influential women of yesterday, celebrating the inspirational women of today, and empowering the strong women of tomorrow. Throughout March, our college chapters organized several fun and engaging events that brought together a community of women who represent and embrace the very essence of Strong Women Strong Girls.

Members of the Northeastern University SWSG Chapter participate in fun activities, during Womwn’s History Month, that allow them to discover their personal leadership styles.

Northeastern University SWSG chapter started off their Women’s History Month celebration with their “SWSG Northeastern U. Chapter’s: Women’s History Month Kickoff Event” on March 3rd, at their student center. These series of events really celebrated the empowerment of women. With their workshop’s theme revolving around women in the workforce, and “breaking the glass ceiling,” our Northeastern University chapter invited SWSG college mentors, professional mentors, as well as mentors from other chapters to participate in this event. Their first workshop entailed fun activities that encouraged mentors, students, and leaders to discover their personal leadership and professional styles and was later followed by small rountable discussions led by Strong Leaders, who also shared their personal experiences and perspectives, regarding careers and women within the workforce. Through their events, the SWSG Northeastern University chapter brought together a community of  women from different backgrounds and created a sense of empowerment.
SWSG’s University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) chapter also took the innitiative to celebrate Women’s History Month, by creating a week long celebration called Women’s Week which lasted from March 23-27. Our UMass Boston chapter made it a point that each day was dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the work of strong influential women in today’s society. By celebrating the different strengths each women had (i.e.: innovation, policy, diversity, philanthopy, etc.) the UMass Boston SWSG chapter really came together and embraced the unique differences each that woman has. Below is the list of the events that they celebrated during this special month:
Monday: Open Mic Night with Queen Latifah/Missy Elliot
Tuesday: DIY Crafts with Coco Chanel
Wednesday: Body Image Discussion with Lupita
Thursday: Can You Be An Astronaut with Sally Ride
Friday: Multicultural Food Festival with Julia Child
SWSG is so happy and proud to have such dedicated chapters who take part in making up the framework of our organization. Although SWSG celebrates women on a daily basis, Women’s History Month is a reminder of how awesome it is to be a strong woman and how everyone should celebrate it!
