The 2015 Strong Awards took place in Boston on April 21 at Ernst & Young (EY). Each year at the Strong Awards, we mark the close of another program year by celebrating mentors and community partners, and honoring our graduating seniors. This year, we even enjoyed a sunset view from the 44th floor of EY’s building!
The event’s theme, “America’s Next Top Role Model,” encouraged attendees to reflect on what it means to be a positive role model to girls and peers, challenging traditional norms of femininity. Playing off of the idea of a “catwalk,” all were encouraged to participate in a “walk of strength” by tracing their footstep and writing what makes them walk in strength–whether it was teamwork, speaking their truth, or recognizing their own beauty.
We were thrilled to recognize the above and beyond commitment of mentors and community partners who received an award, thanks to their peers’ nominations:
Above & Beyond Community Partner: Nicole Young, City Connects Student Support Coordinator at the Josiah Quincy School, SWSG Site Facilitator. Award presented by Tish Li, Harvard Chapter Co-Director.
Above & Beyond Professional Mentor: Rachel Chamberlain of Natixis Global Asset Management, presented by her college mentee and Boston College Chapter Co-Director Katie Ronan.
Above & Beyond Mentor Team: Presented to the Northeastern University mentors of the John F. Kennedy School in Jamaica Plain, by NU Chapter Co-Director Brooke Hoger.
Above & Beyond Mentors: Presented to one individual college mentor from each university chapter who has shown outstanding commitment:
Boston College: Awarded to Katie Ronan, presented by Mackenzie Feehan, BC mentor
Harvard University: Awarded to Amanda Mozea, presented by Karen Gonzalez, SWSG Site Facilitator at the Hurley School in the South End.
Northeastern University: Awarded to Tabria Lenard, presented by Stacy Kanner, NU mentor
Simmons College: Awarded to Lindsey Johnson, presented by Holly Ledoux, Simmons Chapter Co-Director
