Last Thursday, December 8th, 2011, the Strong Women, Strong Girls team gathered at the Root Cause Social Innovation Forum to celebrate the hard work and major impact of Boston organizations working for social change. Each year, Root Cause features one Greater Boston organization in each of six Social Issue Tracks, from food and nutrition to STEM education. In 2007, Strong Women, Strong Girls was honored to be chosen as a Social Innovator. This year, our very own Founder and President, Lindsay Hyde was honored alongside these inspiring Innovators. Lindsay was recognized with the final award of the evening, the Margaret Stewart Lindsay Inspiration Award, presented to her by Brian Potts, Vice President of the Fiduciary Trust Company and trustee of the Margaret Stewart Lindsay Foundation, a valued supporter of Strong Women, Strong Girls.
Brian shared kind words as he presented the award to Lindsay, sharing an anecdote about the early days of SWSG, when Lindsay worked covered in blankets and sweaters in the un-heated basement of a YMCA. From those shivering basement days, Lindsay has grown Strong Women, Strong Girls to now engage over 1,400 girls in Boston, Pittsburgh, and South Florida. The Margaret Stewart Lindsay Award recognizes Lindsay’s hard work and innovation over the last decade of Strong Women, Strong Girls’ evolution.
