Today we remember a member of our SWSG family Rebeca Perea-Garayzar, one of our UMass Boston Mentors and one of the strongest spirits in the UMass Boston community. Rebeca passed away yesterday from cancer and we here at SWSG will never forget her bright spirit and beautiful smile. We use this image of Rebeca on our curriculum because it embodies the beautiful spirit of SWSG so every girl who opens it knows that Rebeca was a beautiful soul and a ray of sunshine. Every single person she touched was infected by her wonderful personality and we are sad to find out she is gone.

Her colleagues and friends at UMass Boston write:

“It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to an incredible woman, a beautiful soul, a wonderful former mentor, a passionate change maker, and a forever friend to all of us, Rebeca Perea-Garayzar. If you knew Rebecca, we at SWSG offer our deepest condolences for the loss of such an amazing friend, a strong woman whose light shined through no matter the circumstance, who loved nothing more than helping others. Rebeca is so loved and will be missed by so many who were touched by her loving soul in her time that was cut too short. We are endlessly grateful to have known such a woman, and to have had the great fortune of having her as a mentor for our chapter. Thank you for blessing this world with your presence, Rebeca. You won’t soon be forgotten. ❤️”
