Volunteers are critical to furthering the mission of Strong Women, Strong Girls. Whether you’re a college woman hoping to join, a professional woman looking to mentor, or a community member who wants to get involved, we can’t wait for you to join our network.
Our professional women mentors, known as Strong Leaders, are adult volunteers who support SWSG’s college mentors. Through SWSG Pittsburgh’s Strong Leaders Program, professional women are paired with college women, and the pairs meet monthly with their matches. Through these one-on-one matches and through Group Mentoring sessions, professional women offer support, guidance, and advice to college women as mentors, leaders, and pre-professionals. There are also myriad events for Strong Leaders and their mentees to attend together.
College women can volunteer to be part of a college chapter – there are six in Pittsburgh. Each week, women from the college chapters travel to program sites around the city, where they lead mentoring sessions with elementary school girls. The sessions are guided by a curriculum built around local and historic female role models and include educational games and activities. Site facilitators help to monitor these sites, ensuring a safe and fun environment for mentors and girls.
Event Volunteers make SWSG celebrations and other events possible. They’re essential throughout the year to help plan SWSG’s annual events, such as the Strong Awards, Mentor Recognition, and mentor trainings. Many volunteers also serve on the day of these and other large-scale events.
SWSG welcomes all volunteers, including those seeking internships, to work with us in our Southside office. As the support system for our community of women mentors and girls, our staff recognizes the need for dedicated volunteers to assist with operations.
