Today, thousands of supporters of the movement to save service visited Senators’ offices around the country as part of Service Nation’s District Day. As you may remember from my blog about the case for saving AmeriCorps, at Strong Women, Strong Girls we are taking this threat to national service pretty seriously. In Boston, Development and Communications Associate Patricia Arty, Program Managers Rachel Spekman and Ryanne Filbey, and myself joined about 60 others (including our friends from New Sector Alliance) to meet with one of Senator Scott Brown’s staff members.
We were moved by the speeches of representatives from many awesome organizations, including Mayor Menino’s office, City Year, CNCS, Jumpstart, and Campus Compact. We were able to catch some of the speakers on tape, including Mary Bruce, Board Co-Chair of AmeriCorps Alums Boston, and Toni Schwarzenbach, from the Eli J. Segal Citizen Leadership Program at The Heller School.
Please continue to educate your public officials about the importance of the Corporation for National and Community Service and the AmeriCorps program. Together we can save service!
