“Mentoring Works!” is the theme of this year’s National Mentoring Month (NMM), celebrated each January. Indeed, mentoring works! Last year, 88% of mentors reported that girls showed increased college and career aspirations as a result of their participation in Strong Women, Strong Girls.
At SWSG, we have big plans to celebrate our mentors, alumnae, partners, and the mentoring field throughout National Mentoring Month. Our impact would not be possible without a whole community behind us! A few of the ways in which we will be thanking our community include:
- Highlighting our mentors and volunteers on Facebook and Twitter
- Featuring mentor alums and current partners in a series on our blog
- Thanking our college and university partners for hosting SWSG and engaging their students
We hope that you will join the mentoring conversation by following us on our social media and website, as well as marking your calendar for these special events:
Jan. 11th, “I am a Mentor” Social Media Day: Participate on Facebook by changing your profile picture to the “I Believe in Mentoring” badge and posting about your experience being a mentor (if you have mentored with SWSG, be sure to tag us!)
Jan. 17th, Thank Your Mentor Day: Reach out to your mentor directly to thank them, post about them on social media, or consider donating to a mentoring program (you can donate to SWSG directly online).
Jan. 21st: Martin Luther King Day of Service: Organize a service project, volunteer in your community, and encourage friends and family to do the same.
We are looking forward to celebrating the impact of mentoring this January, and we hope you will join us!
