In Spring 2010, I began mentoring with the Northeastern chapter, and became obsessed with the awesomeness that is Strong Women, Strong Girls. As a former mentee in a gender-based program, I was pumped to connect with a strong female community and regain that source of empowerment in my life. Strong Women, Strong Girls gave me the opportunity to continue the cycle and give girls the same fabulous experience that I had.
As a Northeastern student seeking my first co-op, I wanted to learn more about the nonprofit sector and the way that organizations function. My development internship at Strong Women, Strong Girls is the perfect combination of my interests in nonprofit and youth work.
I’ve learned a lot through my work in the Boston office, improving my communication skills through grant writing and developing my professional skills. By working in a young, innovative nonprofit, I’ve been able to gain insight into the culture and structure of the organization in a way that I would not have been able to had I chosen a larger organization. The office is a fun environment with a level of commitment and common vision that is contagious.
