On Friday, November 12, Strong Women, Strong Girls Pittsburgh was honored as Community Service Organization of the Year by the Wilkinsburg Boys & Girls Club at their 19th Annual Recognition Dinner! The Recognition Dinner was a great opportunity to celebrate the successes of the Boys & Girls Club youth, volunteers, families, and staff. Several SWSG girls were honored with awards, including Keanne Wilds and Sariyah Mauqtadir. We are so proud of them for being leaders in their community! Keynote speaker Robert Wilson shared his useful advice on success and the importance of working to reach your goals at an early age. It was a great evening of food, fellowship, and celebration!
Strong Women, Strong Girls began programming at the Wilkinsburg Boys & Girls Club in January of 2010 as part of our regional expansion. Mentors from the University of Pittsburgh love serving the Wilkinsburg girls so much that there is a waiting list to mentor at this site! With the continued support of the University of Pittsburgh mentors, SWSG alumnae Abby Dehler and the Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Bea Webb, we look forward to continuing to grow the program and serve more girls in this community.
